Helpful Guidance
At the Prophet's mosque in Madinah, men and women enter through separate gates. Women enter the mosque form the north side. However, the Rawḍah ash-Sharifah and the Prophet (peace be upon him) rest on the very south end of the Masjid An Nabawi. The walk form the north gates to the Rawḍah ash-Sharifah form inside the mosque is no less than 350 meters or 400 yards
There are four gates designated for women at the Masjid An Nabawi:
- Bab Sultan Abdulmejid – Doors 12, 13, 14 : Located on the western façade (side) at the very north end.
- Bab Uhud – Door 23 : Located on the north façade, just left of King Fahd Gate
- Bab Uthman Bin Affan – Doors 24, 25, 26 : Located on the north façade at the north-east corner of the mosque
- Bab Ali Bin Abi Talib – Doors 28, 29, 30 : Located on the eastern façade at the very north end.
If you are walking along the eastern side of the mosque, you may notice a door numbered 39 called Bab An-Nisa or “The Women’s Door”. However, at present, it is used as an entrance for men.
This door was installed by Umar bin Al Khattab, exclusively for the women during his reign. With expansion, the door has moved eastward and its purpose has also changed.
On women visiting Rawḍah As-Sharifah
Women are alloted specific times to enter the Rawḍah ash-Sharifah. These timings change through the year. You will also need to register your time-slot to visit the Rawḍah using the Eatmarna app.
When visiting the Rawḍah, ladies enter through Gate 25 (Bab Uthman Bin Affan). If you enter the Masjid An Nabawi form Bab Ali Bin Abi Talib (Gates 28, 29, 30) or Bab Mejidi (Gates 12, 13, 14), you may discover the path to the Rawḍah gated or walled off. You may even find the nearby gates shut in order to maintain the direction of travel and make it easy to quickly enter and exit.
After dropping off their ladies, men can enter the Masjid An Nabawi form the magnificent King Fahd Gate (Gates 20, 21 22). It is exactly in front of the Clock Tower Roundabout at the terminus of King Fahd Rd. The wide corridor form the King Fahd Gate allows for unobstructed travel to the Rawḍah ash-Sharifah. There is also plenty of space here to allow the men to pray or sit and wait in worship while their ladies finish their ritual at the Rawḍah ash-Sharifah.
When searching for hotels near the ladies gate 25, you will need look in the neighbourhood of Al Bada’a (the Clock Tower Roundobout) and Al Masani. These areas see heavy pedestrian foot traffic due to the proximity of numerous hotels, restaurants, shops and services. You will also find here buses for ziyarah that take you to Uhud, the site of the Battle of Khandaq and Masjid Al Qiblatain.
